Believing that the essential and transformative powers of art and the natural environment are central to a thriving future for all, A Studio in the Woods (the Studio), a leading artistic and academic residency program in the Gulf South, is dedicated to forest preservation, science-inspired art education, and supporting artists and scholars who are tackling the challenging issues of our time. During this period of profound change, the Studio’s mission is more relevant than ever: fostering creative responses to the challenges of our age by providing retreat to artists, scholars, and the public in a protected forest on the Mississippi River in Orleans Parish

Friends of a Studio in the Woods received support for their Self as Universe: Mending Our Collective Ecosystem Residencies, which support artists and projects seeking to repair the disconnection and alienation between humankind and the planet that is hindering the climate movement.
