The Brick is a nonprofit visual art space that promotes developments in contemporary culture through exhibitions, publications, and public programs. Launched in 2005 as a platform for emerging and under-recognized talent, The Brick (formerly LAXART) has expanded its mission to encompass thematic exhibitions that engage with key issues of our time. We believe that contemporary art is a means of understanding those issues, with all their inherent contradictions. Contemporary art assumes many forms. Rather than provide answers, it raises questions. Through a range of offerings, we contextualize contemporary art both socially and art historically. Our programs are free and designed to be accessible to the general public.
The Brick, acting as fiscal sponsor, received emergency funding for Grief & Hope. Grief & Hope was founded by a group of volunteers (artists, gallery employees, and other cultural workers) to raise funds to support artists and art workers affected by the devastating Los Angeles fires of January 2025.
