Founded in 2021 by Misty Copeland — the first African-American principal ballerina at American Ballet Theatre — the Misty Copeland Foundation (MCF) brings greater diversity, equity, and inclusion to dance by making ballet affordable, accessible, and fun. MCF’s mission is to provide opportunities for children in under-resourced communities to engage their bodies, hearts, and minds in learning through dance, especially ballet, advance the art form of ballet through greater diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to pursue social justice through arts activism
The Misty Copeland Foundation received general operating support for their program, BE BOLD, its signature afterschool ballet program, and its new pilot program for older adults, BE BOLDER. Serving under-resourced communities of color in the Bronx and Harlem, BE BOLD and BE BOLDER both provide a holistic dance education.
